Deacon is an accomplished musician from the Pacific Islands, he contracted leprosy and was diagnosed at 21.

As he told us ‘this is a very treatable but dreadful disease, maybe this was the reason why Jesus selected to mention it and performed one of his wonderful miracles while He was here on earth.’

For many Samoans like Deacon, they will know a famous Samoan song about a grandmother whose grandson was taken away to a separate island on diagnosis of leprosy.

The song “Le Manutagi“ (the bird that cries when sad) talks about the pain of a grandma who had to endure the suffering and loss of a grandson who was afflicted by leprosy.
