Partnering together for long-term sustainable change to strengthen communities affected by leprosy:

  • For empowered, inclusive and resilient communities addressing wider community development.
  • For improved health in communities for all.
  • For sustainable preventative health and community empowerment.

The foundation of the partnering principles is based upon:

  • Impact:  remembering why we are here; focusing on what is important and keeping communities at the centre.
  • Manaakitanga:  engaging respectfully and vigorously, dealing with difficulties/ disagreement in a mana enhancing way; bringing people into discussions; understanding each other’s perspectives and looking for common ground.
  • Open & honest communication:  commitment to no surprises; proactive communication; being clear in our expectations; listening actively.
  • Mutual benefit:  being honest about our drivers for partnering, recognizing these may change over time; keeping up to date about one another’s organisational priorities; and commitment to achieving each other’s drivers and satisfaction.
  • Being courageous:  being honest about what is working and what is not working; commitment to experimentation, learning and innovation; reflecting on our failures and successes; evolving our approach and the way we work together as required to achieve impact.
  • Relationships:  being intentional and proactive in our engagement; making time for our engagement; and commitment to increasing our understanding of one another, leading to greater confidence and trust.
