Thanks to faithful supporters like you, Santosh, who spent much of his first 20 years in hospitals due to ulcers on his legs, is now beginning to experience 'life in all its fullness.'
Do you remember Santosh, the young man from Nepal whose story we shared back in 2020?
Diagnosed with leprosy at just four years old when an ulcer was found on his right foot, Santosh's journey has been marked by significant challenges and incredible resilience. Known to the staff at Anandaban Hospital since his early diagnosis, Santosh is loved by many for his positive and smiley nature.
In 2020, he received two new artificial legs, which brought renewed hope and determination to pursue his entrepreneurial spirit. Last year, our Leprosy Mission team visited Santosh at his home in southern Nepal to see how he was faring four years after his second leg amputation and the fitting of his new artificial legs.
Praise the Lord! Over the past four years, many positive changes have improved Santosh’s overall situation.
With the help of staff at Anandaban Hospital, Santosh now has a fit-for-purpose home that provides easy access and security. Additionally, he has acquired a motor scooter with specially adapted stabilizers, giving him the independence to travel safely in traffic.
This newfound mobility allowed Santosh to explore employment opportunities. He tried working as a delivery person and later as a shop assistant in a grocery store. Although unforeseen issues led him to leave both jobs, Santosh remains undeterred in his quest to provide for himself and his family. He plans to buy three milking buffalo, which he and his mother can care for, selling the milk to the local village and town.
During our visit, it was clear that Santosh is a beloved member of his community, surrounded by friends and family who admire and support him. Thanks to faithful supporters like you, Santosh, who spent much of his first 20 years in hospitals due to ulcers on his legs, is now beginning to experience 'life in all its fullness.'
