Caleb and Naomi are two of the wonderful Youth Advocates in 2025. As a group, their goal this year is to raise $30,000 for a new vehicle for the Leprosy Mission's Anandaban Hospital, which will help provide access to quality medical care to remote communities.
Caleb Corban and Naomi Riedel are experienced runners, but in July, they set out on one of their biggest feats yet – a 181km run around Christchurch’s Hagley Park to raise money for charity.
It is a daunting goal.
“The run will be a distance far bigger than anything I have done before, so I’m expecting it to be a big mental and physical challenge, but it’s worth it to be supporting a really important cause,” Corban said.
Their goal is to run 181km, that is 1km for every child diagnosed with leprosy in Nepal in 2023, while raising awareness and funds for people affected by leprosy.

Funds will help the Leprosy Mission NZ purchase a new vehicle for Anandaban Hospital in Nepal. The vehicle would transport hospital staff and medical supplies to remote areas, where leprosy patients otherwise don’t receive treatment.
“If one person donates $26, that covers the cost of a month's worth of treatment for one leprosy patient. And that is only equivalent to you sacrificing about four coffees, ” said Riedel. “Every dollar counts.”
