Where We Work

We work in some of the poorest and remote areas in the world.

We work hand-in-hand with governments, local communities, partner health organisations, the World Health Organization, and many others to provide and evaluate a range of different projects.

The projects help transform the lives of leprosy-affected people as well as work towards eradicating the causes of the disease.

  • Bangladesh

Bangladesh is one of the poorest and most densely populated countries in the world and leprosy is still a major health problem.
  • Bougainville

Since 1999, the Leprosy Mission New Zealand has been supporting the development of a successful community health programme in Bougainville.
  • Ethiopia

The Leprosy Mission New Zealand works in partnership with a local grassroots leprosy organisation called ENAPAL (Ethiopian National Association of People Affected by Leprosy).
  • India

The Leprosy Mission began working in India in 1874, and The Leprosy Mission New Zealand works predominantly in two regions of India: Muzaffarpur and Faizabad.
  • Indonesia

Indonesia has the third highest number of new leprosy cases in the world. Leprosy Mission New Zealand entered into a funding partnership with Netherlands Leprosy Relief in a project that will help end leprosy in Indonesia.
  • Nepal

At the last estimation, over 3,000 people are currently undergoing treatment for leprosy in Nepal.
  • Papua New Guinea

    Papua New Guinea

The Leprosy Mission New Zealand has been working closely with TLM Papua New Guinea in reducing the medical, social and economic burden of leprosy in PNG.
