TLM DR Congo consists of a small team of 20 Congolese staff working from their office in the capital, Kinshasa, and in health districts that are endemic with leprosy (Kasai, Kasai Central, Kongo Central, Maniema, Sankuru, and South-Kivu).
All of TLM’s projects in DR Congo have two main goals. The first is for persons affected by leprosy and other neglected tropical diseases to have access to integrated quality service in each district.
The second goal is to create long-term sustainable improvements in the lives of communities affected by leprosy with which TLM works. The DR Congo team works alongside churches and local organisations to encourage decision-makers to make health services available to all. They are also improving the capacity of several actors and partners in the leprosy field.
The Leprosy Mission NZ also support the active leprosy case finding in DR Congo. Through active case findings, new leprosy cases are detected to receive MDT treatment. Their contacts are screened for leprosy and receive MDT treatment or preventative treatment.
