Join Lorna’s Mission to cure children in PNG of leprosy

From 17–31 July, we’re excited to partner with Coast Radio to help cure children with leprosy in Papua New Guinea.

Lorna Riley knows firsthand the terrible effects of leprosy on children and families from her travels to Nepal with us in 2018. Now she’s determined to help children like 15-year-old twin sisters Faith and Kiteni in Papua New Guinea.

15-year-old Faith and Kiteni both have had leprosy since a young age.

Their leprosy started as discoloured patches on their foreheads and limbs. They did know what it was, or what it could do.

Faith says, “My right hand became so weak I had to learn how to use my left hand to write. I had to endure the challenge of doing everything differently because of the disease.”

In a community where leprosy is still feared, the twins soon felt the sting of stigma.

“Our neighbours gossiped about us,” says Faith. “We could see it in their body language. It made us incredibly sad. For a long time, happiness felt far away.”
